How to Add or Change Themes in Google Slides

Choosing the right theme with a professional touch and soothing design layouts is a must to make your presentations a success. Google Slides offers you plenty of themes to help you make a great impression on your audience. If you are a beginner and don’t know how to import and customize a theme in Google Slides, you have landed at the right place!

Here is the step-by-step tutorial to change, import, and edit a theme in Google Slides. Let’s begin!

Changing a Theme

Step 1: Open your Google Slides presentation.
Step 2: Click on Themes in the toolbar. A new panel will open on your screen’s right side. Alternatively, you can select Slide > Edit Theme.

Step 3: You can find all the default themes in this panel. Click on the “In this presentation” drop-down to see the themes your document is using.

If you use a new theme, all the previous themes will be removed. If you were using a Google Slides default theme, it would appear on the default themes list. Remember, you can’t apply a theme to selected slides only.

Importing a Theme

Step 1: Open your Google Slides presentation.

Step 2: Click on the Themes panel in the toolbar.
Step 3: Select the Import theme, and a new window will open. You can browse for a PowerPoint presentation or upload it using the Upload tab. After choosing a presentation, click on Select. It will open a window, and you can select the theme you want to import.

Step 4: Now, click on the Import theme. It will be implemented into your entire presentation, and your previous themes will be removed.

Step 5: You can check the layouts of this new theme by clicking on the Layout drop-down arrow.

Editing the Colors of a Theme
