How to Highlight Text with the in-built ‘Text Highlight’ Option in PowerPoint

Step 1: Open your PowerPoint presentation and go to the slide where you want to highlight the text.

Step 2: Select the text by holding the left click of the mouse and hovering over the text. 

Step 3: Select the ‘Highlight Color’ option from the top menu bar and choose the color that matches your presentation’s layout. 

How to Highlight the Text using a Shape 

Step 1: Once your presentation is open, click Insert > Shapes > Rectangle. Draw the rectangle over the text you want to highlight. 

Step 2: Go to Home Menu > Shape > Outline > No Outline from the drop-down list to remove the shape’s outline. 

Step 3: Select the shape and click the Shape Fill option to fill in the color of your choice. 

Step 4: Keeping the shape selected, you will get a drop-down of options by right-clicking on the shape and selecting ‘Send to Back.’ This will highlight your text as you need it. 

How to Highlight the Text Using Microsoft Word 

If you are using the Microsoft Office Package versions of 2010, 2013, and 2016, you will not get the built-in option of highlighting the text in PowerPoint. But don’t worry! You can leverage Microsoft Word parallel to PowerPoint. 

Step 1: Open the Microsoft Word. Type or copy your text. Modify the typography and font size that matches your presentation. Then, select the text.

Step 2: Go to the Home Menu, click on the ‘text highlight color’ and select the preferred shade. 

Step 3: Select the text and copy it with Ctrl + C.

Step 4: Paste the text in the desired slide with Ctrl + V. This will open a pop-up where you must select ‘use destination theme’ to keep the content as it was copied. 

How to Highlight the Text Using Glow Text Effect: Alternative Method to Highlight in PowerPoint

Step 1: Pick the slide where you want to highlight the text and select it. 

Step 2: From the top menu, select the ‘shape format’ and choose Shape Formatting > Text > Effects > Glow. 

Step 3: From the submenu with different glow options, you can pick the one as per your requirements and click on the ‘more glow colors’ option.
