SPIN Interview Method is a unique way of conducting personal interviews. It was developed by Neil Rackman, an American behavioral psychologist, who conducted a research along with Huthwaite Inc. during the 1970's and 1980's. Rackman headed a team of 30 in assessing more than 35,000 sales interviews conducted in over 20 countries in about 12 year and came across 100+ factors that lead to sales performance improvement. The research concluded that interviewing questions that include Situation, Problem, Implication and Need-payoff (read as an acronym SPIN) proved most effective method for more complex and really large sales processes.
